BLOCK ISLAND BLUE POTTERY
JOAN MALLICK, CLAY ARTIST
About the Artist

Joan Mallick has been an artist all her life.  She grew up in Chicago, Illinois and bought her first kiln to fire the pottery as a teenager.  Originally a painter, Joan found clay was a better medium to express herself.  She earned her B.A. in Fine Arts and Education at Rosary College and continued her education at the Art Institute of Chicago nights and weekends while teaching primary grade school in Chicago.
Joan taught grade school in England at an Air Force Base where she met and married her husband, Arthur Mallick.  There she took classes at Oxford University.
After three years in England, the couple relocated to Connecticut where she got her 5th year certificate in Fine Arts at Southern Connecticut State College.  She has exhibited her art in galleries and a museum in New England and NY before starting her own business.
